Your Guide to the November updates to the NDIS.
From the 15th of November 2021, changes were made to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (Provider Registration and Practice Standards) Rules 2018 and the National Disability Insurance Scheme (Quality Indicators) Guidelines 2018.
New practices and standard quality indicators have been updated in three areas. This is your Blitzit Plan Manager Guide to understanding the changes and how they may affect you and your providers.
What the changes affect:
- Severe Dysphagia Management
- Mealtime Management
- Emergency and disaster management
The Changes in Detail:
Severe Dysphagia Management
What: Severe dysphagia assessment, management and support.Why: To ensure each participant requiring severe dysphagia management receives support that is relevant and proportionate to their individual needs and preferences.
Who: Applies to Registered Providers who provide high intensity support to participants with severe dysphagia.
Where: It appears in Schedule 2 – Module 1: High intensity daily personal activities, of the NDIS Practice Standards
When: Effective from Monday November 15th, 2021.
Mealtime Management
What: The changes deal with the nutritional value and texture of meal planning, preparation and delivery for participants who require mealtime assistance (such as those with mild dysphagia).
Why: To help ensure the quality and safety in the delivery of mealtime management that is appropriate to a participant's individual needs.
Who: Applies to all Providers who provide support to participants who require assistance to manage mealtimes.
Where: It will appear in Schedule 1 – Core Module, Part 5 – Support provision environment, of the NDIS Practice Standards.
When: Effective from Monday December 13th, 2021
Emergency and Disaster Management
What: The standard is intended to address the planning required by providers to prepare, prevent, manage and respond to emergency and disaster situations.
Why: To ensure the continuity of support critical to the health, safety and wellbeing of participants in an emergency or disaster.
Who: Applies to all Providers
Where: It will appear in Schedule 1 – Core Module, Part 3 – Provider governance and operational management, of the NDIS Practice Standards.
When: Effective from Monday January 24th, 2022
