Changes to the NDIS legislation
Changes to the NDIS legislation
You may have heard about the National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Getting the NDIS Back on Track No. 1) Bill being passed in parliament on August 22, 2024.
These new laws were introduced from October 3rd 2024 and will affect all participants over the next 12 months.
What does this mean?
- Participants will have a more straightforward process and requirements for eligibility assessments including disability and early intervention support.
- To help better manage your funding, your NDIS plan will show you the total amount of funding you have in your plan, and how long the plan will last.
- The NDIS has reviewed the “NDIS SUPPORTS LISTS” and what that means, making it easier for you to understand how to use your funding.
- The review on the NDIS Supports Lists provides greater clarity on what the NDIS will fund.
- All new NDIS plans will be 12 months long (until otherwise advised by the NDIS).
- Clearer rules will help you seek support from mainstream services like healthcare or education instead of using your plan funding.
There is still a lot of information to come from the NDIA and Australian Government, and you won’t see all the changes at once, they will be rolled out in stages.
